Green & Human, a collaborative association for the promotion of sustainable tourism with the Biosphere methodology as the system par excellence, has convened its first committee of major promoters, made up of leading companies in the sector for the development of sustainable projects.
Green & Human, the association of Spanish tourism companies to improve sustainability in the tourism industry in Spain, with the Biosphere methodology as a system for the accompaniment and recognition of the advances in the continuous improvement of its associates, has convened its first committee of great promoters this April.
Made up of leading companies in the sector, its objective is to develop sustainable projects aimed at improving the competitiveness of the entire value chain. Thus, its first committee was made up of nine companies: the founding partners, Jumbo Tours Group, Apple Leisure Group-Europe and Grupo Viajes El Corte Inglés; the prime movers, Grupo Hotusa, HP, Iberia, PortAventura World and Kreab Worldwide; Biosphere and the Responsible Tourism Institute as a methodological partner of the cornerstone of the project and mission of the association, its sustainable development.
At the meeting they presented the projects that will be promoted in 2023 and 2024, including the Green & Human collaborative digital platform. This initiative is open to all entities and administrations with an interest in the sector and its main objective is to act as a knowledge hub, as well as a driving force for opportunities.
In the social sphere, Grupo Viajes El Corte Inglés has focused on the importance of accessible tourism with an initiative, developed together with PREDIF (State Representative Platform for People with Physical Disabilities), which is committed to carrying out different actions, from raising awareness and training employees to providing advice on accessibility for the tourism sector.
"Large corporations have the resources and capacity that in many cases they can take advantage of, not only to develop their own ESG (environmental, social and governance) strategies, but also to transmit this knowledge to SMEs in the sector," says Ginés Martínez, Green & Human President.
The association also plans to launch Nest ESG Mallorca, initially conceptualised by Apple Leisure Group-Europe. This initiative emphasises the need for a physical location that can concentrate much of the activity involved in the development of sustainable tourism. The project focuses its efforts on sustainability training in the sector through workshops, seminars or thematic round tables, which promote a model of responsible tourism.
