Biosphere as a tool against Covid-19 based on the 2030 Agenda

The Institute for Responsible Tourism (RTI) and the Biosphere Destination Community (BDC) collaborate closely to achieve greater health security for their tourism companies through the companies' committed system to the destination.

In order to contribute to a faster and more effective recovery in the tourism sector, as well as to regain the trust of customers and users, the Responsible Tourism Institute is carrying out an update in the health section of its plan for continuous improvement in sustainability, by incorporating sanitary guidelines in the evaluation process of the Biosphere Certification

Therefore, both the destinations belonging to the BDC, as well as its committed companies, will work rigorously by improving in health security, the main theme of objective 3 "Health and well-being" of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (17SDGs) of the Agenda 2030 on which the Biosphere methodology is based.

Thus, all companies that wish to commit to a Destination belonging to the BDC will be able to access the Biosphere Certification Platform, where they will find the actions and processes required to request the different international health responsibility labels, such as "Safe Travels", developed by World Travel & Tourism Council, and nationals such as those developed by the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism of the Government of Spain "Responsible Tourism", or "Clean & Safe" by Tourism of Portugal, among others, all free and online processing.

A company that commits to a Biosphere destination will be able, through the “Biosphere Committed Entity” process, to access a personalized questionnaire for each destination to improve and meet the requirements emanating from the 17ODS and its 169 goals, and the application of the international and national health responsibility stamps will be facilitated, as well as getting to know, training and completing the aforementioned guides. This process will be worked on jointly in each Biosphere Destination, where a review and verification of each company interested in committing to the Destination will be carried out, as well as a control and evaluation so it can be checked that it complies with the requirements aligned with the Biosphere Certification.

We invite any destination in the world that wants to start the process of improvement in sustainable tourism in the framework of the 2030 Agenda, as well as the sanitary measures against this pandemic, to make tourism a sanitary and safe industry that helps to positively impact the sustainable development of the United Nations 2030 Agenda.
