Gijón continues to work on the practice of a more sustainable tourism and as a result they have renewed the Biosphere Destination certificate.
From Biosphere we would like to congratulate Gijón for the efforts made in line with sustainability. Despite the devastating situation that the pandemic has brought for tourism, the destination has continued to work to carry out sustainable actions and activities.
Not only that, but this time they are including their business network in the process, with 27 entities having already joined the Biosphere Sustainable Lifestyle platform through the sustainable commitment acquired by the destination. Thanks to this tool for sustainability management, its companies will be able to create a fully personalised sustainability plan, as well as having the opportunity to share and pool best practices among themselves.
Of these 27 companies, the following have already achieved the Biosphere Committed distinction: Parador de Gijón Molino Viejo, Hotel Tryp Rey Pelayo or El Olivar de Noega, among others, a recognition that shows that the entities have started to adopt sustainable activities in line with the 17 SDGs and the 2030 Agenda.
Biosphere Certification
Since 2013, when Gijón began to be part of Biosphere Destination Community, it has been demonstrating year after year its efforts and progress on the road to continuous improvement, taking into account the principles of sustainable management in the environmental, economic, cultural and social fields for more responsible decision making towards its environment.
