Lanzarote promotes sustainable gastronomy with a new project for the island’s restaurants

Lanzarote reaffirms its commitment to sustainability with the launch of an innovative pilot project that will allow restaurants on the island to adopt sustainable best practices and obtain the Biosphere Certified seal. This initiative marks a key step in positioning Lanzarote as a leader in responsible gastronomy.

Lanzarote launches a pilot program for restaurants to adopt sustainable practices and obtain the Biosphere Certified seal.

The island of Lanzarote continues to strengthen its reputation for sustainability with the launch of the Lanzarote Sustainable Gastronomy project, an initiative aimed at recognizing and supporting local restaurants in adopting best practices aligned with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

This pilot project is promoted by the Cabildo de Lanzarote and Turismo Lanzarote, in collaboration with the Federación Turística de Lanzarote, the Instituto de Turismo Responsable (ITR), and Biosphere Sustainable. During its presentation, the restaurant sector was introduced to the benefits of this initiative, which seeks to enhance the competitiveness of gastronomic establishments through sustainability.

A collective commitment to sustainable gastronomy.

The event was attended by Héctor Fernández Manchado, CEO of Turismo Lanzarote; Susana Pérez, President of the Federación Turística de Lanzarote; and Patricio Azcárate, Secretary General of ITR and Biosphere Sustainable. They all emphasized the importance of sustainability as a key factor in the growth and positioning of restaurants on the island.

With the support of Turismo Lanzarote, he Federación Turística de Lanzarote and Biosphere Sustainable, restaurants joining the program will receive specialized guidance to identify and implement sustainable best practices that optimize their environmental, social, and economic impact.

Among the benefits of this initiative, participating restaurants will have access to the Biosphere Certified seal, an internationally recognized certification that guarantees their commitment to sustainability. This distinction will allow establishments to stand out in the market and attract consumers increasingly aware of responsible tourism.

A unique opportunity to stand out in the gastronomic sector.

One of the most innovative aspects of Lanzarote Sustainable Gastronomy is the creation of an exclusive repository of certified restaurants that meet the project’s criteria. This will make it easier for residents and tourists to identify establishments committed to sustainability, providing greater visibility to participating businesses.

Additionally, the Federación Turística de Lanzarote will play a key role in this process, supporting restaurants interested in joining the initiative and providing guidance through a team trained by Biosphere.

According to the organizers, this project represents a unique opportunity for Lanzarote’s restaurants to integrate sustainability into their business models, enhance their market positioning, and improve long-term profitability.

Limited spots available for the program.

As this is a pilot phase, the program has a limited number of spots. Therefore, restaurants on the island are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity and take the first step toward a more sustainable and competitive gastronomic model.

At Biosphere Sustainable, we celebrate this initiative and encourage Lanzarote’s establishments to join this commitment to sustainability, helping to position the island as a leading international gastronomic destination.
