RTI presented the document “Guide for a sustainable tourism: Challenges of the tourism sector facing the Universal 2030 Agenda” in collaboration with REDS, the Spanish representation of SDSN.

REDS published the "Guide for Sustainable Tourism, challenges of the tourism sector in the Universal 2030 Agenda". This presentation took place on 24th October 2019 at the CIDOB Headquarters in Barcelona (Elisabets Street, 12) from 9 am until 1.30pm, overlapping with the United Nations International Day.

The technical presentation of the report was provided by Professor Javier Benayas, co-author of the work, and then there was a round table discussion with different representatives of the tourism sector and political and institutional leaders working in the area of ​​tourism.

The initiative was promoted by REDS, together with the Responsible Tourism Institute (RTI) and the collaboration of the Barcelona City and Provincial Council.

The event followed this program:

  • Welcome table featured by Pol Morillas, Director of CIDOB, Leire Pajín, President of REDS, Tomás Azcárate, President of Responsible Tourism Institute (RTI), Laia Bonet, Third Deputy Mayor of the City Council of Barcelona and Juan Luis Ruiz, Deputy of Tourism, Barcelona Province Council.
  • Presentation of the report “The Guide for Sustainable Tourism “by Javier Benayas, Ecology Professor in Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and member of the REDS advisory council.
  • Round Table Discussion “Challenges of the tourism sector to achieve the 17SDGs”, featured by cordula Wohlmuther, Representative of UNWTO (to be confirmed), Javier Águila, President of Apple Leisure Europa, Adolf Utor, President of Balearia (to be confirmed), Xavier Marcé, Alderman of Tourism and Creative Industries of the City Council of Barcelona (to be confirmed). This Round Table discussion will be moderated by Maria Abellanet, CEO of CETT-UB.
