Euskadi commitment, certified as sustainable tourism destination in the hands of the UNESCO and WTO
Basquetour, the Responsible Tourism Institute (RTI), an independent body linked to UNESCO, and the Global Sustainable Tourism Council, an organization that accredits such certifications worldwide, have signed an agreement to launch in Euskadi certification model "Biosphere Responsible Tourism Destination"
The Deputy Minister of Trade and Tourism Itziar Epalza, as vice president of Basquetour, the President of the RTI, Thomas Azcarate, and the president of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC), Luigi Cabrini have announced at a press conference the main contents of the agreement .
BIOSPHERE, unlike other widespread standards in the tourism industry, brings together in a single standard requirements of quality, environment and socio-economic and cultural development, thus becoming an important added value for any destination aiming to become a Sustainable Tourism Destination.
The Deputy Minister of Trade and Tourism of the Basque Government, Itziar Epalza, in his capacity as vice president of Basquetour-Basque Tourism Agency has signed this morning an agreement or letter of commitment to the implementation of the model in Euskadi sustainable tourism certification " Biosphere Responsible Tourism Destination ". At the signing was also attended by Thomas Azcarate, President of the Institute for Responsible Tourism-ITR, an independent body led by UNESCO has developed certification, at first applied to rural houses and structures, restaurants, etc, and since 2013, also destinations and Luigi Cabrini, president of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council-GSTC, entity driven among others by WTO-World Tourism Organization, which accredits such certifications worldwide.
