Tarragona strengthens its commitment to more sustainable tourism with the signing of an agreement between the Federation of Hospitality and Tourism Businesses of Tarragona (FEHT) and Biosphere. This agreement will facilitate access to Biosphere certification for tourism businesses in the province, aligning their management model with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and thus promoting more responsible tourism.
The Federation of Hospitality and Tourism Businesses of the Province of Tarragona (FEHT) and the Responsible Tourism Institute (ITR) have signed a collaboration agreement aimed at strengthening sustainability in the province’s tourism sector. This agreement marks a key step in promoting responsible practices among local businesses, aligning them with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and facilitating their Biosphere Certified certification process.
The agreement was signed by Ms. Berta Cabré, president of the FEHT, and our Secretary General, Patricio Azcárate, reaffirming the commitment of both entities to a more responsible and sustainable tourism industry.
Through this agreement, the FEHT becomes a preferred partner of Biosphere, allowing it to serve as a key reference in the province for promoting sustainability within the tourism sector. By implementing training, promotional, and communication initiatives, the agreement will encourage the adoption of responsible practices that help reduce environmental impact and enhance the province’s socioeconomic development.
This partnership also strengthens Tarragona´s commitment to sustainability. As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the city has already begun its certification process and holds the Biosphere Committed status. This recognition reflects its strong dedication to continuous improvement and the implementation of sustainable best practices, which will ultimately lead to obtaining the Biosphere Certified distinction.
At Biosphere, we celebrate this strategic alliance with the FEHT and encourage Tarragona’s tourism businesses to join this global commitment to more sustainable tourism. Obtaining Biosphere certification not only highlights a company’s dedication to sustainability but also enhances its competitiveness, strengthens its reputation, and meets the growing demand from travelers seeking more responsible options.
This agreement represents a significant step forward for Tarragona’s tourism sector and lays the foundation for more businesses in the province to become part of the Biosphere community.
