The president of the Responsible Tourism Institute, Tomás Azcárate Bang, participated last Friday, October 5, in the presentation of the book that commemorates the 25th anniversary of the Menorca Biosphere Reserve. The book, presented at the headquarters in Maó del Consell, «25 years of the Menorca Biosphere Reserve. The origin of a historical declaration », written by the former president of the Consell Joan Huguet and the journalist Laura Pons, recalls the first steps that were taken, negotiations and meetings with a group of scientists and politicians to promote the candidacy.

The former president of the Spanish Committee and also of the International Council of the Man and Biosphere Program (MaB) of UNESCO, Tomás Azcárate, has written the prologue, after having been the protagonist for twenty five years of the granting of the status of Reservation to the Island of Menorca. of the Biosphere. The book exposes the structure and the natural and historical values that make up the Menorcan Reserve, as well as the objectives of sustainable development and the bodies that were created to bring the programs to reality. It also reviews the actions that were promoted during the first years of the declaration, from the improvements in the management of the waste, the restoration of the patrimony until the recovery of the Camí de Cavalls.
