As a global tourism organization, Skål International advocates for environmental conservation and positive change in the industry, seeking through these awards to recognize excellence and innovation in the tourism industry, rewarding the most outstanding initiatives in responsible and sustainable practices. 

During the Opening Ceremony of the 83^rd Skål International World Congress, the official announcement of the winners of this edition's Skål International Sustainable Tourism Awards was made, where three judges from renowned global organizations evaluated each proposal based on sustainability leadership criteria, including measurable environmental benefits, business improvements, and positive community impacts:

• Ion Vilcu, Director of the Affiliate Members Department of UNWTO
• Patricio Azcárate Díaz, Secretary General of the Responsible Tourism Institute
• Paloma Zapata, CEO of Sustainable Travel International.

Since 2018, the Responsible Tourism Institute  and Biosphere have supported the awards by granting each winner the 'Skål Biosphere Sustainable Special Award', which includes a one-year free subscription to the  Biosphere Sustainable Platform .
